On the surface, Wright's second season in the NFL looks much like his first, but there were signs of progress despite the fact that he missed the first six weeks while recovering from knee surgery. His yards per carry crept up to 4.1, buoyed by a strong 2.5 yards per carry after contact. That mark would have ranked in the top five in the league had he seen more volume, ahead of the likes of Jonathan Taylor and Derrick Henry. In Wright's one game with significant carries, a Week 14 rout of the Jets, he looked the part of a lead back, turning 24 totes into 107 yards and a touchdown. It was enough to keep him ahead of Ollie Gordon on the depth chart in the No. 2 spot behind De'Von Achane, but therein lies the rub, as Achane's breakout campaign locked him more firmly into the lead role. Wright has the speed to take the ball to the house every time he gets it though, and the Dolphins' offensive scheme could be more run-heavy under new OC Bobby Slowik, considering the addition of Malik Willis at quarterback and the lack of talent on the roster at wide receiver.
