After years of promise, Okongwu finally emerged from the shadows during the 2025-26 season, establishing himself as the long-term starting center in Atlanta. Having been one of the more frustrating fantasy assets due to the fact that he was constantly relegated to a bench role, Okongwu rewarded managers last season, finishing as a borderline top 40 player, averaging 15.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.9 three-pointers and 2.2 combined steals and blocks. While there were a number of talking points, perhaps the biggest was the fact that he went from 0.6 to 1.9 three-pointers per game. However, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. In this instance, it was that Okongwu's efficiency fell from 56.7 percent to 48.0 percent, which is less than ideal for a center. Coming into the 2026-27 season, Okongwu's competition for minutes will be Jock Landale, who, despite some encouraging moments, is really just a backup-level center. Assuming Okongwu plays a similar role, there's no reason to think he won't finish inside the top 50 once again. While he doesn't have the name-value of some of the other centers inside the top 50, Okongwu certainly belongs in that discussion. Managers will have to spend a fifth or even fourth-round pick, much higher than he has gone in the past.
