After offseason ankle surgery delayed his 2025-26 debut, Edey returned looking like a future star, averaging 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 1.1 assists in 25.8 minutes per game while shooting 63.3 percent from the field and a much-improved 78.1 percent from the line. A nightly double-double with elite rim protection and strong percentages is exactly what he flashed as a rookie, but his sophomore season lasted only 11 games. Edey suffered a stress reaction in his left ankle in mid-December, and after initially being ruled out for four weeks, his recovery stalled, requiring another six-week shutdown before he ultimately underwent season-ending surgery to resolve the lingering discomfort. The Grizzlies expect him to make a full recovery ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, but that's two surgeries on the same ankle in consecutive offseasons, and injuries have limited Edey to just 77 regular-season appearances through two years. For a 7-foot-4, 300-plus-pound center, chronic lower-leg issues are alarming, and fantasy managers should factor absences into Edey's profile until further notice. There's also new competition to sort out, as Memphis added Cameron Boozer, Isaiah Stewart, Quinten Post and Jerami Grant to its frontcourt this offseason. When available, Edey still projects to play starter-level minutes, but the Grizzlies figure to be cautious with the Purdue product, especially after bolstering their depth. His per-game upside is exciting, and centers who rebound and block at that rate while shooting 60-plus percent are top-50 players when they're on the floor. However, Edey is a classic risk/reward pick in the middle rounds, and managers who reach for him are banking on upside flashed in a small sample.
