After starting for the first two months of his rookie season, Kalkbrenner shifted to the benchin late December, serving as the primary backup behind Moussa Diabate. He finished bysuiting up for 69 games, averaging 7.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 21.4 minutesper game. By the time January hit, Kalkbrenner had moved from must-roster territory intobeing nothing more than a block streamer. Coming into his second season in the league,Kalkbrenner will once again be battling Diabate for playing time; However, the Hornetsdrafted Hannes Steinbach in June, providing the team with another center option, notably anoption that has the ability to space the floor. All three have a claim to the starting spot, withall three bringing different things to the table. Given the uncertainty, Kalkbrenner is probablybest avoided in standard league drafts. With that said, keeping him on the radar makessense, just in case he somehow carves out a starter-level role at any point.
