Despite averaging a career-high 2.0 steals per game, the 2025-26 season was somewhat disappointing for anyone who took a chance on Thompson. He closed as the 97th-ranked player in nine-category leagues, averaging 9.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.9 blocks in 26.0 minutes per game. However, while the defensive production was fantastic, his role was far from consistent. Over the course of the season, his playing time ranged from 15 to 36 minutes, as a result of both foul trouble and coaching decisions. While his impact on the defensive end is undeniable, his inability to stretch the floor severely limits what he can do offensively. Spacing continues to be an issue for the Pistons, hence the addition of John Collins, Isaiah Joe and Kevin Huerter during the offseason. Thompson is almost certainly going to remain in the starting lineup, making him a viable fantasy asset across all formats. However, should he continue to struggle on the offensive end, it's hard to see his role elevating beyond about 28.0 minutes per night.
