Fantasy Outlook

The Raiders gave Smith the new contract he wanted after they traded for him last offseason, but it was all downhill from there. He was under constant pressure behind an offensive line that allowed a league-high 64 sacks, and tight end Brock Bowers, who missed five games, was his only weapon in the passing game. Eight of Smith's league-high 17 interceptions (in 15 games) came under pressure, but he also made plenty of bad decisions on his own. It was enough to get offensive coordinator Chip Kelly canned by midseason and head coach Pete Carroll fired by season's end. The Raiders then traded Smith to the Jets this offseason, reuniting the 35-year-old QB with the franchise that drafted him 39th overall in 2013. Perhaps it can't get worse for Smith, but consider that WR Garrett Wilson led the Jets with 395 receiving yards last season despite missing 10 games. The Jets' offensive line was far from dominant (3rd-highest QB pressure rate), relying on young tackles Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou to make up for subpar play on the interior. New York did, however, give Smith two first-round targets in Kenyon Sadiq (16th), a 6-foot-3 tight end with 4.4 speed, and Omar Cooper (30th), a receiver noted for his after-the-catch playmaking. The development of those two is paramount, given how little else the Jets have alongside Wilson and RB Breece Hall. Smith's last year in Seattle, he was QB14 in fantasy. Last year, he was QB24. If Smith can just split the difference this year, it will be a success.
