Fantasy Outlook

The Steelers traded for Metcalf last offseason to replace George Pickens, whose career year in Dallas stood in contrast to Metcalf's career low of 850 receiving yards in Pittsburgh. It wasn't exactly a bad year for the former Seahawk, as he still made timely big plays, but his target share (21.5 percent in 15 active games) was far from dominant even though he was the only show in town at wide receiver. QB Aaron Rodgers threw a ton of passes to TEs and RBs, with the lack of deep throws also showing up for Metcalf in the form of a decrease in average depth of target (10.5) after he recorded aDOTs of 13.5 and 12.8 in his final two Seattle years. He'll be in a much different offensive system this year, with HC Mike McCarthy replacing former OC Arthur Smith as the primary schemer in a move that sounds promising for pass-game volume. The problem is QB play, with Pittsburgh either relying on a 42-year-old Rodgers or turning to someone like Will Howard or Drew Allar. The Steelers also added competition for WR targets, trading for Michael Pittman before using a second-round pick on Germie Bernard. In other words, any rebound for Metcalf is likely to be modest.
