After landing a four-year, $41 million deal with the Spurs in free agency, Kornet provided mostly what was expected of him during the 2025-26 regular season. In 68 regular-season appearances (25 starts), the veteran big man averaged 6.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 blocks in 21.0 minutes per tilt on 64.3 percent shooting from the field. His playing time and effectiveness dropped sharply once the postseason came around, however. He averaged 3.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.7 blocks in 12.8 minutes while shooting 56.9 percent from the field across 23 playoff appearances as San Antonio leaned heavily on superstar Victor Wembanyama during the team's run to the NBA Finals. In the short term, Kornet's role is fairly solidified as Wembanyama's top backup at center. Looking further ahead, however, San Antonio's first-round selections of centers Tarris Reed and Jayden Quaintance, the latter of whom is likely to miss a chunk of time while recovering from right knee surgery, suggest that a youth movement in the post could be on the horizon. Kornet has some streamer appeal if Wembanyama is sidelined, but the 31-year-old is unlikely to provide consistent fantasy value and could see Reed and Quaintance cut into his playing time as the season progresses.
