After an injury-plagued sophomore campaign, Holmgren bounced back with a healthy Year 3, but his production remained stagnant. Despite shooting a career-high 55.7 percent from the field, his scoring didn't take a major leap, and he actually slightly regressed in most categories, other than rebounding. Regressed is a strong word, but when talking about the 2022 No. 2 overall pick, it's fair to be critical when his Year 3 numbers look nearly identical to his rookie stats. However, Holmgren still became a first-time All-Star and finished runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year. He also added All-NBA and All-Defensive First Team honors to a trophy case that already includes the 2025 championship, and he anchored a Thunder squad that posted the NBA's best record at 64-18, with Oklahoma City's defensive rating improving by more than five points with him on the floor. He thrived at power forward next to Isaiah Hartenstein while sliding to center when needed. The 2025-26 season ended on a sour note, as Holmgren failed to attempt a shot in the second half of the Thunder's Game 7 loss to the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, a disappointing finish with Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell sidelined by injuries. That performance underscores the lingering fantasy frustration with Holmgren, who remains the clear No. 3 option behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Williams. Holmgren's limited minutes continue to cap his ceiling, while his scoring, assists and steals are all modest for a player drafted in the early rounds of fantasy drafts. Plus, OKC's frequent blowouts routinely cut his nights short. Still, the combination of blocks, boards and efficient scoring with respectable three-point volume makes him one of the better category-league anchors, especially from the center position. Treat Holmgren as an early third-round pick in category formats, where his defensive stats and percentages shine, and bump him down a round in points leagues, where the muted counting stats are harder to hide.
