Arguably no running back had a worse offseason than Benson, and he didn't even do anything wrong. First, the Cardinals restructured James Conners' contract to ensure the veteran would return, then the team signed Tyler Allgeier to a two-year, $12.25 million contract that all but guaranteed the former Falcon would have a significant role in the backfield as well. Those might have been surmountable obstacles for a healthy Benson, a third-round pick in 2024 on the strength of a 4.39 40-time and ideal size, but then Arizona used the third overall pick in the 2026 draft on Jeremiyah Love to be the new centerpiece of the offense. Benson's 2025 season was cut short by arthroscopic knee surgery and his injury history dates back to his college days, but even if he's 100 percent this offseason he'll need a change of scenery to have any real chance of showing that he has something to offer in the NFL.
