A seemingly prototypical between-the-tackles runner, McGowan's lackluster college production after transferring from New Mexico State to Kentucky, as well as ball security issues, caused him to fall to the seventh round of the 2026 draft. McGowan's athletic testing at the combine was very impressive, however, as he ran a 4.49 40-yard time at 223 pounds and ranked in the 100th percentile in the vertical jump and 99th percentile in the broad jump. His best fit would seem to be as an early-down back who can hit holes with power and gain yards after contact, as he hasn't displayed much in the way of third-down skills. The Colts weren't the best landing spot for McGowan, but if Jonathan Taylor were to go down, he would be in the mix for significant touches alongside DJ Giddens.
