Stevenson has struggled with fumbles for most of his career and is probably lucky he didn't land on the bench last season after dropping the ball twice in Week 3 and a third time in Week 5, which at the time gave him 10 fumbles in a 20-game span. Luckily and to Stevenson's credit, he wouldn't fumble again the rest of the 2025 season and by the end of the year had largely reestablished himself as a viable NFL starter. It would have been easy for Stevenson to stay down on the mat, especially with competition as talented as TreVeyon Henderson closing in, but Stevenson instead dominated New England's backfield work in the postseason and now returns as the incumbent starter. The issue is that Stevenson's depth chart advantage over Henderson is tenuous -- a prospect of Henderson's caliber probably won't be a backup forever. Despite his 227-pound build and powerful running, Stevenson faces a secondary workload concern in the form of his accumulating injury history, after missing some time in each of the past three years with foot/ankle injuries. There exists a scenario where the Patriots run often and well enough for both Stevenson and Henderson to coexist as fantasy starters, but that path is probably narrow, and the more likely outcome is a workload split where at least one of the two is marginalized.
