Williams had a big opportunity last year, joining the receiver-needy Patriots as the 69th overall draft pick (early Round 3) right when QB Drake Maye was on the cusp of a breakout. Coming off a 1,198-yard, 14-TD season in his final year at Washington State, the speedy rookie (4.4 40) never managed to get a foothold in New England's offense. He was active for all 17 regular-season games and scored TDs of 72, 37 and 33 yards, but Williams made just seven other catches, finishing with 10-209-3 on 21 targets. He was targeted on a measly 12.4 percent of his routes in the regular season, before catching just two of six targets for 14 yards in four playoff games (41 routes). The Patriots now have free-agent signing Romeo Doubs and trade acquisition A.J. Brown atop the depth chart, leaving Williams to compete for depth roles with Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas and others.
