Alvarado spent the first five years of his career with the New Orleans Pelicans, but a midseason trade sent him to the New York Knicks last year. That couldn't have been a better destination for Alvarado because he ended up winning a championship with them. The one issue is that it hurt his fantasy value, with Alvarado playing a complementary role in NY. That was always expected with Jalen Brunson dominating usage and touches for the Knicks, with Alvarado averaging 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.0 steals across 19.9 minutes per game last year. That's a drop from the 24 minutes we saw the year prior, and you have to wonder how much he'll be utilized this season. Alvarado has an opportunity to play more since New York went on such a deep run last season and will want to limit Brunson after he carried such a big workload. What's concerning is how little Alvarado played in the postseason, averaging just 9.5 minutes a night. This guy can be fantasy-relevant in a 20-minute role, but there's not a single player in the NBA that's useful when they're playing single-digit minutes. If there's a silver lining for Alvarado, it's that this guard rotation is extremely thin. Alvarado could play 25-30 minutes if anything happens to Brunson, but he'll be lucky to reach 15-20 in any other circumstance.
