After four seasons with the Browns, Ford signed a one-year deal with the Commanders this offseason looking for a fresh start. The 2022 fifth-round pick seemed like he could be Cleveland's heir apparent to Nick Chubb a couple years ago, rushing for 813 yards over 17 regular-season games in 2023 and then averaging 5.4 yards per carry on far less volume in 2024 while adding an 81-544-5 line on 106 targets as a receiver in those two seasons, but Ford fell out of favor after the Browns added both Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson in the 2025 draft. Ford doesn't offer any elite traits but has a well-rounded skill set, making him an ideal depth back who can handle just about any situation. In Washington, Ford joins a backfield that doesn't have a clear-cut No. 1, but both Jacory Croskey-Merritt and bigger-name free-agent signing Rachaad White would seem to be ahead of him in the pecking order for touches, leaving him fighting with Jeremy McNichols and 2026 sixth-round pick Kaytron Allen for a spot on the gameday roster.
