Thompson didn't do much during his college career until 2025, his age-22 campaign, but there's no doubt he's been on a roll since last year. He led the SEC in receiving yards, putting up 57-1,054-6 on 90 targets for Mississippi State, before starring at the 2026 NFL Combine with a 4.26 40-yard dash (t-6th all-time). Thompson may be too thin (5-foot-10, 164) to effectively deploy his speed in the NFL, but the Chargers will give it a shot, bringing in Thompson as the 105th overall pick (Round 4) this spring. He and RB Keaton Mitchell give new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel elite speed to work with off the bench, while the likes of Omarion Hampton and Ladd McConkey figure to handle more of the heavy lifting. Thompson could perhaps get a shot at regular playing time if things go wrong with Quentin Johnson and/or Tre' Harris, but the more likely scenarios entail Thompson learning in street clothes or occupying a part-time role.
