Royer had 79 catches for 937 yards and seven TDs in two years at Cincinnati after being a non-factor as a pass catcher for three years at Ohio State. The 6-foot-5, 247-pound TE has a well-rounded skill set, but he doesn't necessarily stand out as either a blocker or a receiver. Royer is already 24 years old and didn't participate in athletic testing at the NFL Scouting Combine -- additional hints at limited fantasy value even if he carves out a successful pro career. After being drafted in the fifth round by the Browns, the 170th overall pick projects to compete for a backup role behind Harold Fannin, who figures to dominate playing time on passing downs whenever he's healthy. In other words, there's not much chance of Royer establishing Year 1 fantasy value without Fannin missing time.
