Bates led the NFL in extra-point attempts and makes in each of the past two seasons, but he was only a low-end starter or streaming option for fantasy, ranking 10th and 13th among kickers in points per game. In his first pro season (2024), he tied for 21st in field-goal attempts (29) as the Lions scored touchdown after touchdown. They were less efficient last year when Bates tied for ninth with 34 field-goal attempts, but it still didn't add up to much in most fantasy formats because he made just 27 of those kicks (79.4 percent) and fell back toward the pack in PAT volume (dropping from 64 makes in 2024 to 54 makes in 2025). He went just 4-of-9 from 50-plus yards last season, though not for a lack of leg strength, so he should continue to get plenty of long-range chances in Detroit's dome. Bates may not be one of the league's better kickers in real life, at least not yet, but he should remain functional as a low-end starter for fantasy on the basis of easy volume.
