Traore wasn't expected to do much in his rookie season as the 19th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, but he quietly had a nice debut. The Frenchman played 22 minutes a night in his rookie campaign, averaging 8.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 0.8 steals per game. That playmaking was probably the most surprising part of his game, but Brooklyn wants him to be one of the primary ball-handlers when he's out there. The opportunities should be plentiful this season when examining this roster because the other guards in this rotation are guys like Egor Demin, Mikel Brown, Ben Saraf, Drake Powell and Keon Ellis. That's one of the worst backcourts in the NBA, and there's a chance for any of these guys to break out if they can take that opportunity. Many believe that this 20-year-old has one of the highest ceilings of any of them, averaging 12 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.5 steals over the final three weeks of last year. That sort of production is what fans want to see over a full year, and it should be doable since he did that in only 23 minutes a night. Julius Randle and Michael Porter are expected to dominate touches, but don't be surprised to see Traore as the primary ball-handler at times this season.
