Fantasy Outlook

Penix tore his ACL in November last year -- his third career ACL injury -- to end what was a mediocre season anyway. He threw only nine TD passes in nine games, his completion percentage (60.1) ranked 30th and his on-target percentage (69.2) ranked 28th. Like his rookie year, Penix used his big arm to go deep plenty. His 8.8-yard average target depth ranked seventh as he threw 10-plus yards downfield at the second-highest rate in the league (39.9%). He just didn't complete many of those passes, with 43.6 percent ranking 29th. The Falcons signed Tua Tagovailoa this offseason and said he'd compete with Penix for the starting job, though it isn't clear Penix will even participate in training camp or be ready for Week 1. Either way, the offense may be improved under new coach Kevin Stefanski, who inherits a strong offensive line and a trio of quality playmakers (Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts). The team's quarterbacks are far less interesting for fantasy, with Penix and Tagovailoa both offering the same discouraging combination of minimal running ability and a lengthy medical record.
