Hayes was a bit of a bust as a top-10 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, but he's carved out a solid career as a backup center. That's the role he's played throughout his career, backing up Deandre Ayton in Los Angeles last year. The struggles of Ayton led to Hayes having one of his best seasons, averaging 7.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.8 blocks across 18.3 minutes a night. He has now played between 16 and 20 minutes in five of his seven NBA seasons. A 20-minute ceiling is a terrible outlook from a fantasy perspective, but Hayes is always a viable option whenever he fills in as a starter. That's what he's hoping to do in Utah because he's now backing up Jusuf Nurkic in his first season with the Jazz. What makes it problematic for Hayes is that Jaren Jackson Jr. and Lauri Markkanen can play small-ball center. That really doesn't leave much for Hayes, especially since Kyle Filipowski is in the picture as well. It would be shocking to see Hayes play 20 minutes a night, with 10-15 looking like the most likely outcome in this stacked rotation.
