Dobbins missed four games with an MCL sprain in 2024, yet by his recent standards it was a major durability success to play even 13 games. It helps that Dobbins was excellent when healthy, emerging as the Chargers' starting running back despite their reservations about his durability following Dobbins' 2023 Achilles' tendon tear. Dobbins was a uniquely dominant runner at Ohio State and has consistently produced like one of the NFL's top running backs when healthy, but projecting Dobbins' health is always a perilous task, and as of press time it wasn't clear what teams might be interested in signing Dobbins as a free agent. The Chargers might have some remaining interest in re-signing Dobbins, but the fact that the Chargers already signed Najee Harris likely means Dobbins would be in a relatively even timeshare even if he re-signs with the Chargers. Given his injury history, Dobbins might be unlikely to draw an especially high dollar amount in free agency. If Dobbins is forced to sign for cheap then he could end up in a situation where his usage volume is capped in a rotational role, though Dobbins' explosiveness could offset low volume somewhat if he stays healthy.
