Texans used 4 TE’s for most of last year including FB Jakob Johnson & Harrison Bryant who were between 53 & practice squad. Between the group of: Dalton Schultz Foster Moreau Cade Stover Brevin Jordan If the Texans add a potential draft pick in the mix as well there will be very good competition down the depth chart for the group outside of Schultz & probably Moreau.

As we get closer to draft time I hear the term “BPA” a ton and especially for the Texans but I really believe this line of thinking of flawed for 2 main reasons. - BPA for teams is very different than consensus boards & reporters. - Teams almost always consider need including the Texans. Houston has never taken a player on day 1-2 that wasn’t a position of need for them either in year 1 or moving forward (Lassiter, Fisher, Bullock, Higgins, Noel, Ersery, Smith just in the last 2 years.)

I have a hard time seeing C.J. Stroud have a “bad” season in 2026 with improved offensive situation & year 2 in an offense where Stroud finished 9th in EPA/Play last year. It’s more about how much he improves using his rushing ability & hopefully keeps the sack/turnover avoidance from last year. From weeks 4-18, Stroud finished 5th in EPA/Play & 11th in success rate which would have both easily been career highs.

This is by far the biggest offseason in the career of TE Cade Stover who will likely have to compete for a roster spot. - Outsnapped Dalton Schultz in week 1 where he played well. - Injury kept him out until week 11 where he really never got into rhythm. He had a nice camp leading to the season but really never find that rhythm after his injury. He needs to improve his core strength and anchor as a Y/in-line blocker mostly where he could play that role and compete with Moreau.

Texans QB C.J. Stroud working out with former LSU WR and 2026 draft prospect Chris Hilton Jr.: Stroud has been working out in California with his QB Coach Adam Dedeaux (Train3DQB) who trains many other NFL QBs including last years MVP Matthew Stafford.

Something I noticed going through some numbers last year is C.J. Stroud was much better in games last season when his aDOT was below 9. In games where his aDOT was below 9 (Weeks 1,3-5,8,9,15,16,18): - 14 TDs - 4 INTs - 83.3 PFF Grade - 7.4 YPA - 0.27 EPA/Play Most of the games where struggles occurred were games where Houston & Stroud tried to attack down the field more due to defenses taking away underneath and/or longer down & distances.

Current Texans RB room pre draft: - David Montgomery - Woody Marks - Jawhar Jordan - British Brooks Houston carried 7 RBs & 2 FBs into camp last year. I would expect this to be a position Houston looks at whether day 2/3, UDFA or post draft FA.
