San Francisco Giants outfielder Jerar Encarnacion had surgery on his fractured left hand and is expected to be sidelined for eight weeks.
Encarnacion sustained the injury during a spring training game on March 21 while attempting an outfield catch.
The 27-year-old was being considered for a full-time designated hitter role this season after showing promise in spring training with two home runs, 14 RBIs, and a .302 batting average.
Encarnacion joined the Giants on a minor league deal in 2024 and played 35 major league games, hitting five home runs with 19 RBIs and a .248 batting average.
