This was not a power move or any other contrived internet scenario. It was a common sense decision that will likely help Gordon, on his own, decide to return sooner than later. It gives Gordon the opportunity to see for himself how other teams(trading partners) value him, and likely discover that the Chargers offer was top end

He got more guaranteed, the equivalent of 2 years salary guaranteed, but gave up last years 15 million dollar income. Long story short, the Chargers are smartly getting in front of it and allowing Gordon to discover less impressive offers for himself with the hopes that makes him come back
