I played high school and college and the coaches always warned you about coming back “soft.” In college it was “advised” to keep to your running and lifting program that was provided to you by the trainers and strength coaches. From what I hear too many professional athletes take it easy during the off season and suffer avoidable soft tissue injuries. At training camp the teams don’t start off slow. You hit the ground running so you better be in shape
